Ryan Babbush

Ryan Babbush is Director of Research for Quantum Algorithms at google-quantum-ai. He is the co-author (with hartmut-neven) of the 2026 blog post and whitepaper “Safeguarding Cryptocurrency by Disclosing Quantum Vulnerabilities Responsibly” — see babbush-neven-2026-quantum-vulnerabilities-cryptocurrency.

The paper presents updated resource estimates showing ECDLP-256 can be broken with < 500,000 physical qubits using an optimised implementation of Shor’s algorithm, and advocates transition to PQC for blockchain and cryptocurrency systems.
